This week, we join Emma at home as she shows how to create a stunning backdrop for any Christmas celebration.
MY MAGICAL MANTLEPIECE
Emma: "I love decorating the Christmas tree with my family, but also relish taking this moment for myself each year. It's a chance to be creative, and marks the moment when I really start to feel festive. Ideally, I'll have a bit of Frank Sinatra in the background, a glass of sherry in hand, and the doggies bouncing around beside me – for me, that's Christmas perfection!"

"I love decorating the fireplace – it’s a real focal point. I try to change my designs each year; sometimes I keep it simple and just have a collection of vintage candle sticks, other years I'll go all out with bountiful floral arrangements in vintage vases, with lots of seasonal foliage gathered from the garden. This year, I enjoyed making the wreaths for our stores
so much that I've chosen to recreate the style at home.
The colours of old mans' beard (a variety of clematis) and seed pods are so soft and beautiful, and Mr Blackbird
sat on his perch adds a lovely, fun finishing touch. I wanted the display to ooze glitz and glamour, so added some of our stunning tree decorations; the vintage-look, champagne-gold colours blend in so well with this colour palette. The dollop of sparkle against the natural textures of the dried foliage creates a beautiful and enchanted feeling."
"If you don’t have a mantelpiece, you could easily adapt this look for other parts of the home. It'll look equally gorgeous on a bookshelf, or draped around a mirror, or you could entwine a bannister with foliage and decorations, or run elements down the centre of your dining table on Christmas Day. However you use it, it's a great way to continue the festive feel from room to room, and perfect for areas that are a little further away from the traditional star of the show which is, of course, the tree.
Most importantly, be free! There's no right or wrong way to create an arrangement and – as far as Christmas concerned – more really is more! You can never have enough sparkle and texture at this time of year – though it should go without saying that candles are to be kept well away from any dried flowers..."
